BUSUnited
Sustainable energy skills in construction
BUILD UP Skills United (BUSUnited) is a project under the EU's LIFE Clean Energy Transition (CET) program, whose main objective is to launch, develop, and establish thematic professional communities (Community of Practice - CoP) of active professionals with proven experience in developing and promoting sustainable energy skills for construction professionals in EU Member States and LIFE-associated countries. Partner organizations from Ireland (leading country), Bulgaria, Italy, the Netherlands, North Macedonia, Hungary, and Spain are currently part of the BUSUnited team.
BUSUnited will promote widespread European cooperation and dialogue on interdisciplinary issues such as: improving knowledge and skills for sustainable design and management of construction projects, promoting the application of good practices in energy- and resource-efficient construction, increasing market demand for skilled labor, and contributing to the development of partnerships between key organizations and institutions at the European level. BUSUnited intends to achieve this by:
A. Initiating joint working groups that will work on the following topics:
• Sectoral skills needs
• Skills recognition
• Innovative training methods
• Demand side mechanisms
• National skills roll-out
• Funding sources
• Creation of synergies at EU level
B. Use of a practical (challenge-based) approach, through which problems on individual topics will be analyzed and solved as a result of joint work by community participants. The main objective is to build on and apply solutions from past projects, which will help to replicate and standardize good results.
C. Developing a structure for the community's work plan with a clearly defined scope, mission, and challenges to be addressed, with specific responsibilities and expected results.
D. Developing a structure and principles for working with communities (the so-called "DNA" of BUSUnited) through which groups can establish themselves, organize, and manage themselves, an important step in ensuring their sustainability over time.
E. Establishing contact with relevant projects and their partners.
With the participation of over 400 stakeholders from across Europe, BUSUnited is accelerating the uptake of clean energy skills while strengthening the competitiveness and sustainability of the construction sector.
